Joy to Borrow

The global pandemic of 2020 and 2021 left a lot of us stuck at home much of the time.  In the Pacific Northwest that means plenty of dark, dreary, rainy, days with little chance of escape to sunnier,  warmer climes. Like many, I’ve struggled with trying to maintain a cheerful approach in these times. This song is a bit of reaching out, to be able to “borrow some joy” from those who seem to always have it in abundance.  Its a light and simple song and its my first attempt at a bit of a reggae vibe. I hope it brings you some joy as well.

Joy to Borrow copyright 2020 Steve Smith (SOCAN)

Been 37 days without the sun
Looking for ways to bring back fun
I’m not the type of guy who smiles a lot
But most days I’m happy with what I got
But lately I got something to tell you true
Quite honestly I feel a little blue
You’re the type of girl who shines her light
Gonna ask you this and I hope it’s alright

Have you got some joy I could borrow?
I’ve had enough of suffering and sorrow
Have you got some joy I could borrow?
I’ll try to pay it back by tomorrow

C’mon pretty baby have you got some joy? X 4

Life can be a burden, indeed it can
Things come your way that you didn’t plan
Curve balls coming at you from every direction
Time to reach out and make a connection
I long for the beach, I long for the sun
I long for the times when we used to have fun
Splashing in the waves and laying in the sand
I’m reaching out to you, reaching out my hand

Have you got some joy I could borrow?
I’ve had enough of suffering and sorrow
Have you got some joy I could borrow?
I’ll try to pay it back by tomorrow

C’mon pretty baby have you got some joy
C’mon pretty baby have you got some joy
C’mon pretty baby have you got some joy
C’mon pretty baby have you got some joy
