Musings of a Restless Mind
About Me

About Me

A blessing or a curse?

A Restless Mind is always at work, always problem solving, always creating,
always self analyzing.

I’m not best in class at anything but I’m pretty good at a lot of things. I’m always seeking that elusive thing that I’m superbly talented at. I haven’t found it yet.

In seeking my ultimate purpose, I have discovered a lot of interesting and creative things along the way; things like creative writing, poetry, photography, design and music.

I emerged into the world in Yorkshire, England and was raised in the wilds of Alberta, Canada after my family emigrated when I was a boy. Now, home is near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where I live with Judy and Brewster. We love to travel when we can and these experiences provide much of the fuel for my creative works. My day job is a web developer and I have my own company called Red Fish Web Solutions.

One day I hope to publish a fiction novel and I work on it whenever the inspiration arrives at my doorstep. I have a book of poetry and other prose that I started writing in my early twenties (that’s a while ago now). Some of these poems have become song lyrics and eventually actual music. I’m not talented as a musician, although I like to beat the drums once in a while. What I really enjoy is putting songs together utilizing some of the excellent production tools we now have available to us. I’ll tell you more about that in a future blog.

The lyrical themes I explore are not typical songs about love and heartbreak, although there are sprinklings of that intertwined within the threads of stories. I tend to write a lot about interconnectedness, nature, the human condition, inspiring places. Time is an everpresent element. After all, it’s the one thing we cannot overcome.

You may find mention of many local places in my songs. I don’t shy away from finding inspiration in local stories, there are stories to be uncovered no matter where you live.

My musical textures tend towards the world of progressive and alternative rock music, with bits and pieces of  Blues, Reggae and even Techno/EDM (gasp!). I love to combine acoustic and electronic textures. These are not polished final productions, more like demos, explorations of ideas and rhythms.

I’ve created this site not for fame, and certainly not for fortune. I hope that these songs and stories speak to other people in some way. Please enjoy.
