Some say there are a few things you should never talk about in songs; religion, politics and death. Well, I decided to combine all three into this song!
My family was never really religious but I did have some church based influence early in life. As I’ve grown older I’ve admittedly become much more cynical of organized religion. I respect people of all faiths however I feel I am just as entitled to have my views as others are to have theirs.
I think I understand the cycle of life and how organic processes work. It helps me to come to terms with death and what it means. This song sort of sums up this current approach. Whether you agree or not I hope you’ll at least have a listen.
A note about the picture above. It was taken at a partially ruined church on the west coast of Ireland. Part of the ceiling had collapsed and this massive tree had grown up right through the middle of what once was a cloister. Nature reclaiming her fertile ground.
Back to the Earth

I don’t talk to the spirits, or the holy ghost
I’m not waiting for somebody, to liberate my soul
I don’t need a user manual, to tell me how to live my life
Just bring me back to the earth, when the time, is right
Just bring me back to the earth
The place we all started from
When these battered bones need a rest
When I’m lost and looking for a home
Bring me back to the earth
Take my rest beneath the trees
You can just bring me back to the earth
And return my energy
I hear talk of your corruption, masquerading as belief
If you just send a contribution, we can help you with your grief
Will you put in a good word, to the man who stands at the gate?
Just bring me back to the earth, and let nature seal my fate
Just bring me back to the earth
Back to the earth
The place we all started from
When these battered bones need a rest
When I’m lost and looking for a home
Bring me back to the earth
Back to the earth
Take my rest beneath the trees
You can just bring me back to the earth
Back to the earth
And return my energy
