My God Doesn’t Throw Lightning Bolts

My God Doesn’t Throw Lightning Bolts

The painters of the time
Under ever watchful eye
Showed God as an angry face
Looking down from heaven, and sky
The message to mere mortals
A mass emancipation
A sinner’s road can only lead
To eternal damnation

The iron-clad crusaders
Through fields and mountain passes
Ten thousand thundering footsteps
To cleanse the heathen masses
The Templar oath, a solemn bond
To forever serve thy Lord
Convert the non-believers
By arrow, lance, and sword

A speech infused with anger
Revenge is coming soon
Cast upon the kneeling masses
From under crescent moon
Throughout the land of shepherds
The youth fulfill their fate
To carry out their destiny
To where the virgins wait

My God is not a vengeful God
My God does not take sides
My God’s not interventionist
My God does not provide
My God requires no membership
The door is always open
My God is multilingual
An environmentalist too
My God does not throw lightning bolts
Nor abuse her mighty power
My God lives on connected
Through water, wind and flower
