Many of us have had to deal with the fear, sadness and loss when someone we love has a serious illness. This ballad, is one of my earlier songs, based on the feelings I was dealing with when my wife was in the hospital with cancer. Yeah, its a bit sappy, but everyone’s allowed a bit of sappy once in a while.
I’m happy to report she made it through and is cancer free to this day.
UPDATE (2022): I’ve renamed this song to “No Expression” from “Coming Home” and simplified the structure somewhat, while adding some new melodic elements. I now feel it is truly a ballad.
No Expression

We’re sitting hand in hand
Waiting for the news to come
Girl it’ll be alright
Waiting for the words to come
And then it was a blur
From waiting room to waiting room
Girl it’ll be alright
Waiting for the sleep to come
One second .. no words
An expression (we knew)
One second.. no words
No expression
I watch you walk away
Alone and like a child again
Girl it’ll be alright
Waiting for the tears again
We’re walking in the rain
The dogs and I an empty glance
It’ll be alright
No matter what the circumstance
On that April day
When we danced and sang
We both made a promise
That we’d always be there
One second …no words
An expression
One second … no words
No expression
And now you’re coming home
You’re coming back to us again
It’s gonna be alright
Our family is whole again
One second …no words
An expression
One second … no words
No expression
