Time for a fun, nostalgic song.
The year was 1986. I was just a couple of years out of high school and I took a job as a rock DJ at a small town bar in the Alberta foothills.
Soon I was accepted by a few locals, who were a little outside of the normal. We were into hard rock, metal and punk, but this was very much, cowboy country. Summers were spent swimming in the clear local rivers, playing pool and drinking cheap beer at the local bars and pretending to be budding rock stars. Meanwhile, MTV was exploding on to the scene and even in this small town in rural Alberta it’s presence was being felt.
Punks and Bangers

A dirt road along a river bank
A rusty pickup with an empty tank, Got
Bon Jovi on the stereo
Neon shorts and we’re good to go
The sun is bright and the waters cool
The beer is cheap and we’re out of school
Things were different back in 86
We were punks and bangers living in the sticks
We were punks and bangers
An empty room above the beauty salon
We’d try to jam out to our favourite songs, With
Joe Strummer on the stereo
We’d “Rock the Casbah” till we had to go
But soon the river would be calling our names
We’d hit the water till the sunset came
We didn’t keep good time or perfect pitch
We were punks and bangers living in the sticks
Punks and Bangers
We were Punks and Bangers
Later on down at the local bar
We’d be playing pool and twisting arms
Lace gloves and a pleated skirt
Glamour princess sure knows how to flirt
She looked down at us from the screen
I heard her whisper to me “in your dreams”
We weren’t bad looking but we sure weren’t slick
We were punks and bangers living in the sticks
A different life, a different place
I had to move on up and join the race
I had to cut my hair and shine my shoes
And driving home I got the rush hour blues, There was
Nirvana on the stereo
Head banging, car moving slow
I’m taken back in time to 86
When we were punks and bangers living in the sticks
Just punks and bangers living in the sticks
