On a recent winter trip to Tofino and Ucluelet, BC, I was struck by how healing and calming it was to walk along the tideline, especially with the one you love. The wind was brisk, but the sun was out. Whales were spouting in the distance. Magic! A perfect place to start again.
Tideline

As I walk along the tideline
On a windy winter’s day
Low sun bouncing off the wave tops
I can feel the salt spray on my face
My footsteps fade away behind me
A disappearing blurry line
Filled in by the rushing water
Filled in by the sands of time
Every tide can bring a new perfection
Every tide can wipe away the stains
Will you come and meet me at the tideline?
Seems a perfect place to start again
Interlude
Like the continents, we drift apart
The spaces filled in by the sea
Are we too far to hear each other?
Have we become a mystery?
Mystery
Whales are spouting in the distance
Breaking the surface, taking air
Then diving deep into the darkness
I wonder what they see down there
Every tide can bring a new perfection
Every tide can wipe away the stains
Will you come and meet me at the tideline?
Seems a perfect place to start again
Start again
Start again
Most of the world is under water
Most of the world we just can’t see
When I look past the ocean in your dark eyes
You’re still a mystery to me
Mystery to me
Mystery to me
Mystery to me
